MR1RAQ — Nazim “Naz” Poshklidi
MR1RAQ is Naz Poshklidi's wild JZA80 Toyota Supra Pro burnout car. Powered by a 6.2-litre iron-block LS V8 with twin turbos, the current combination produces 895kW (around 1200hp) and 1000Nm on 25psi and E85. Power is sent through a heavy-duty TH400 transmission to a Holden VZ diff with custom axles.
Originally built with an LS1 and single turbo, MR1RAQ has continually evolved into one of New Zealand's most distinctive Pro burnout cars. Naz won the 2025 Chrome Horsepower Festival Pro Burnout Qualifier, earning his ticket to compete at Summernats 38, where MR1RAQ progressed through to the Sunday Redemption Round.

Ignition limit: 8,000rpm at the time, with the engine reportedly capable of being run to 10,000rpm.
One of the most recognisable cars in the New Zealand burnout scene, HAUNTU is Braden Smith's wild Holden VF Commodore wagon. The current combination features a 509ci Dart-block big block built by Rob Penman, topped with AFR heads, a Fisher intake, Littlefield 14-71 supercharger and DMPE carbon injector hat. On 15psi and 28 degrees of timing, the combination produced a documented 1325hp. HAUNTU earned a spot at Summernats 36 after qualifying through the 2023 Chrome Horsepower Festival and has been a fixture of the NZ burnout scene for many years.

Induction: Supercharged, now running a custom billet high-rise blower manifold designed and manufactured by Llama Engineering. The modification puts the top of the blower above the roofline of the ute.
The history of DSPRNG is pretty cool. Garrett told Street Machine that he originally bought the HQ for $100 around seven or eight years before the Summernats 36 feature. It started with a 283 small-block Chev, then went through a string of combinations including a 305 and 406 before eventually moving to the LS setup and becoming a much more serious burnout car.
Garrett “Gaz” Matthews' DSPRNG is a Holden HQ One Tonner and one of the South Island's best-known burnout cars. Originally purchased as a $100 project, the Tonner progressed through numerous small-block Chevrolet combinations before evolving into the blown LS-powered burnout car it is today. The Llama Engineering-built LS now features an attention-grabbing custom billet high-rise blower manifold that positions the blower above the ute's roofline. DSPRNG qualified to represent New Zealand at Summernats 36 through the 2023 Chrome Horsepower Festival and is also featured in the Burnout Masters Game.

The ute actually came from Australia. Leon imported it to New Zealand in 2018, when it was running a twin-tunnel-ram LS1 making around 450hp on E85. He competed with it in that form before deciding to turn it into a serious blown burnout car.
The current build was a substantial transformation. Llama Engineering worked with Troy at Warspeed Industries on the engine package, then handled the injection, cooling, complete electrical installation and dyno tuning. The rear of the ute was also extensively redesigned with a heavy-duty four-link and pushrod suspension arrangement, with the airbags and rocker system moved above the deck to protect them from burnout heat and fire.
An NZV8 feature documented the combination at around 1100hp.
Achievements
One of TAINTED's biggest results was at the 2024 Chrome Horsepower Festival, where Leon finished in the top two alongside Braden Smith's HAUNT U. That earned TAINTED a Summernats 37 Wildcard ticket.
Leon subsequently remained on the Pro Burnout Series pathway, with Street Machine listing Leon Kenny / TAINTED among the Wildcards for the 2025 series leading into Summernats 38.
And he made it there: your NZV8 coverage of Summernats 38 records TAINTED as one of the five Kiwi cars representing New Zealand, alongside GHOST, VIOLENT, NFG and MR1RAQ. It was Leon and TAINTED's first Summernats.

BAD TEMPAH is a turbo Barra-powered Toyota Corolla that has become a familiar sight in the New Zealand burnout scene. Based in the South Island, the team have travelled extensively to compete at burnout events throughout both the North and South Islands, putting plenty of kilometres on the tow rig in the process.
BAD TEMPAH has appeared at everything from grassroots burnout meetings through to larger national events, including rounds of the 6 Banger Series, and has made the trip north to compete against cars from around the country.
While the Barra-powered Corolla can certainly smoke tyres, Becks, Tim and the BAD TEMPAH crew have become just as well known for the entertainment side of the sport. Costumes, themes, passenger involvement and plenty of interaction with the crowd are all part of the package — exactly the sort of “party car” attitude the 6 Banger Series was created around. Fitzroy Motorsport even uses the BAD TEMPAH team as an example of how to “Make it a Party” in its Series competitor information.
With appearances at events around New Zealand, BAD TEMPAH is a great example of a genuine grassroots burnout car — built to travel, built to compete and, most importantly, built to entertain.

DOUBRO — Coleman Stoddart
Driven by Coleman Stoddart, DOUBRO is a South Island six-cylinder burnout car and an established competitor in New Zealand's grassroots burnout scene. Coleman claimed one of the car's biggest achievements at Beachlands Speedway, taking out the 2026 6 Banger South Island Grand Champ title at the inaugural South Island event.

EVLMK5 — Rolly Lemin
EVLMK5 is Rolly Lemin's Mk5 Ford Cortina burnout car from Invercargill. Powered by a naturally aspirated 347ci Windsor V8, the old-school combination features a tunnel-ram intake, dry-sump oiling and is capable of spinning to around 8000rpm. Power is sent through a built C4 automatic and Ford 9-inch diff.
Rolly has campaigned EVLMK5 extensively throughout New Zealand, travelling from the deep south to compete at events including RevSouth, Chrome Horsepower Festival and Rapanats. The high-revving naturally aspirated Cortina stands out in a scene increasingly dominated by boosted combinations.

HIJAKD is Trevor Briggs' wild 1989 Daihatsu Hijet kei truck, transformed from an old farm hack into one of the more unusual burnout cars competing in New Zealand.
Powered by an LS1 V8, the tiny Hijet sits on a custom-built chassis with a four-link rear end and unmistakable twin vertical exhaust stacks. With a big V8 squeezed into such a small package, HIJAKD is very much a point-of-difference build rather than another conventional Commodore or Falcon.
Trevor brings plenty of automotive knowledge to the build through his Manawatū-based Holden Diagnostics business, which specialises in ECU programming, diagnostics and performance tuning. holdendiagnostics
HIJAKD has become a familiar sight at New Zealand burnout events, with the little kei truck's unusual proportions and LS soundtrack making it instantly recognisable.

Darcy put together an incredibly consistent 2026 season, finishing fourth at RevSouth, fourth at the 6 Banger North Island round at Manfeild, third at the South Island round at Beachlands and fifth at Rapanats.
Those performances saw Darcy and OUTLAW crowned the 2026 6 Banger Series Champions, finishing the season on 177 points.

THE PEST claimed the SKID KING title at the inaugural 2025 6 Banger Nats, proving you don't need a turbo Barra or huge horsepower to put on a winning skid. Fitzroy Motorsport's own 6 Banger Series page even features Tony's post-burnout celebrations as an example of how competitors can get the crowd involved.
THE PEST continues to compete at burnout events around New Zealand and perfectly represents the grassroots side of the sport — an Intech-powered AU Falcon monster truck being revved to 7,000rpm and sent until the tyres are gone.
